Nursing in public
There have been several scandals and reports on tv of mom nursing in public. It is still considered shameful and as a taboo.
As much as we would like to make a political stand against the shaming of breastfeeding moms, it’s also important that breastfeeding moms are comfortable nursing in public. Here are a few tips to learn to cover up for those of us who are too shy to show our bodies.
Supplies for nursing discreetly
-Nursing scarf (pull it down like a poncho for discreet nursing, even better if it’s breathable cotton. The ones found in etsy are beautiful.
-Nursing tshirt with hidden opening, such as the ones from bellymoms.
-Baby carrier. Some that work great with nursing are the baby ktan (easier to put on and off versus the moby or any wrap). Most carriers that are backpack style make it hard to logistically get to your boob, because they get on the way of the pulling up and down of tshirt and bra.
-Tshirts with a deep v-neck or loose that can be pulled down. Ideally the nursing tshirts work better but if you are on a budget try this. No one will see anything if you use the nursing scarf on top.
-Nursing covers. They get on the way and draw more attention to you than a nursing scarf. Would be easier to just use a receiving blanket to cover up instead.
-Nursing tanks that you wear under your shirt. This ones will make you feel hot and sweat like crazy. You are better off covering with a scarf and using regular clothes.
-Nursing bras. Let’s face it, they suck. Most nursing bras have zero support and they get on the way. They don’t help in the shaping of boobs and if you wear a nursing pad then it shows. Use a regular sports bra with support or even an underwire bra (if it’s only for some hours. You can pull them down easier and they don’t get on the way.
